As I’ve been saying about these experiments: the 30 days will pass either way. The book writing challenge works in the following way. The only thing you cannot work on is an empty document. Even what you write on a good day, when you feel like you have written the divine comedy pt.2, will probably be edited when you have to re-read the book. But that’s not very likely, so I wouldn’t let that keep you from trying to write a novel. Right now you are writing the first draft of a book in 30 days. That’s probably the worst that could happen. A month later, BOOM: meteor meets world, and all intelligent life in the solar system is extinguished. But not just anyone–you happened to run over a beautiful Nobel prize-winning physicist, the only person in the world who could figure a way to stop the meteor hurtling toward the Earth from outside our solar system. You were so into it that you started thinking about your novel all the time, even when driving, and suddenly WHAM you weren’t paying attention and you ran someone over. NaNoWriMo challenges writers to complete 50,000+ words of a novel in just 30 days. I decided to shelve the manuscript and start a new book. I’m not one to give up, but I also knew my novel still wasn’t right. If I get free time, I’ll blog about finances more. After working five years on perfecting a novel, I sent out a round of queries, received some requests for the full manuscript, but ultimately was rejected every time. They’re in pretty good shape at this point, although I still have 6-7 things I want to do. (My 30 day challenge for October was to get my finances in order. ![]()
